History of Taikothon

Back in 2013, the Taiko Community Alliance had a big dream: to become a member-supported organization and raise $50K. So, they put on their thinking caps and hatched a plan: Taikothon! This virtual fundraiser was hosted in the cozy living room of Sue and Ray Yuen in San Jose, with Elise Fujimoto as the master of ceremonies, keeping the energy high and the momentum rolling.

Volunteers from Jun Daiko, Mountain View Buddhist Temple Taiko, San Jose Taiko, and Stanford Taiko brought food and provided the people power needed to acknowledge pledges of donations and commitments for charter memberships. Hundreds of taiko players responded, and TCA was officially launched. The first Taikothon was an unqualified success and, since then, a cherished annual TCA event.

What is Taikothon?

Taikothon is a live multi-hour on-line event to showcase taiko and the taiko community.

When is Taikothon?

Taikothon is typically hosted in autumn in alignment with TCA’s annual Membership Drive.

Who Participates in Taikothon?

Everyone who wants to! Taikothon is made possible because it’s all online. Anyone can submit a video and share their story. You don’t need a certain amount of experience or years playing taiko… give it a try!

Who Hosts Taikothon?

The taiko community! Specifically, lively TCA volunteers plan, organize, and take the stage to host the event on Livestream. They join from regions all across the USA and more!
